Changing the printer's IP address

How to change the printer IP's adress

Written by Andreea Lazar

Sometimes a network receipt printer needs to be moved to a different IP address — for example when the router changes, when the IP conflicts with another device, or when the app can no longer find the printer. Below are the full steps.

Before these steps: check whether the app has already fixed it

In Ebriza POS NEXT, the app checks the printers every 2 minutes. If a printer stops answering but is still on the tablet's network and has simply received a different IP address from the router, the app finds it by its serial number and updates the address in Ebriza by itself. You get no message and there is nothing for you to do — the printer goes back to green in Devices, and the corrected address also reaches the other tablets at the location.

So if the printer has only been showing as disconnected for a few minutes, wait another two or three minutes and check Devices again before starting the procedure below.

If you got the message "Printer can no longer be found", first try the steps shown in the message, in that order: check that it is switched on, restart the cash register / printer, then remove it from the list and add it again, and only then restart the router. Most of the time the printer comes back after one of these steps and you will not need the IP-change procedure below.

The steps in this article are still needed when:

  • the app shows the message "Printer can no longer be found", you have gone through all the steps in the message (restart the printer, remove it and add it again, restart the router) and the printer is still not found;

  • the printer has no serial number saved in Ebriza and so cannot be searched for by serial — usually printers that were added manually, by IP address;

  • the printer's address conflicts with another device on the network;

  • you want to move the printer to a fixed address so that it never changes again.

Keep in mind: to configure the printer, your PC and the printer must be on the same network (same subnet). That's why, during setup, you disconnect the PC from the internet and connect it directly to the printer.

General steps:

1. Disconnect the PC from the internet — turn off Wi-Fi or unplug the network cable.

2. Connect the printer directly to the PC with a network cable.

3. Find the printer's current settings. Turn the printer off, then turn it back on while holding the FEED button. It will print a slip with its network details — note the IP address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway shown there.

4. Set the PC's IP address manually, so it's on the same subnet as the printer:

  • Subnet Mask and Gateway — the same as on the printer's slip.

  • IP address — the first 3 number groups identical to the printer's (usually 192.168.0), and the last group a number that is different from the printer's and from the Gateway.

(Exact steps per operating system are below.)

5. Open a browser and type the printer's IP address in the address bar. The printer's interface should appear, where you can set the new IP.

6. Save the printer's new IP.

7. Verify — go back to the browser using the new IP and confirm the printer responds there.

8. Return to normal: disconnect the printer from the PC, reconnect the PC to the internet, and set the PC's IP back to Automatic (DHCP).

How to set the IP manually on the PC (per system)

Windows 11 / 10

1. Settings → Network & internet

2. Choose Wi-Fi or Ethernet (the active connection)

3. Click the network name → Hardware properties (on Wi-Fi: click the network → Properties)

4. At IP assignment → Edit

5. Change from Automatic (DHCP) to Manual

6. Turn on IPv4 and fill in:

  • IP address: 192.168.1.50

  • Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

  • Gateway: 192.168.1.1

  • Preferred DNS: (None)

  • 7. Save

macOS (Ventura / Sonoma / Sequoia)

1. → System Settings → Network

2. Select the connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet) → Details…

3. TCP/IP tab

4. At Configure IPv4 choose Manually

5. Fill in:

- IP Address: 192.168.1.50

- Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

- Router: 192.168.1.1

6. DNS tab → None

7. OK → Apply

Note:

The 192.168.1.x values above are only an example. Use the first 3 number groups read from the printer's slip, and for the last group pick a free number that's different from the printer's.
