Happy Hour: discounts only during specific hours and on specific days

Any type of promotion can be limited to a specific time interval and certain days of the week. The setting is available under Validity, below the Advanced checkbox.

How to read the fields?

The window during which the promotion is active starts at the time entered in the From date field and lasts for as many hours as you enter under Recurrence interval (in hours).

  • From date — the date and time when the promotion starts for the first time. The time entered in this field is the start time of the window, every day.

  • Recurrence type — daily or yearly. For a happy hour, select daily.

  • Recurrence frequency — how often the cycle repeats. 1 = every day.

  • Days of the week — the days when the promotion is allowed. There is also an All days of the week option.

  • Recurrence interval (in hours) — how long the window lasts, in hours.

Example: 20% discount on Margherita pizza, Wednesday–Friday, from 11:00 to 16:00

  1. Go to Marketing → +.

  2. Under Details, select the location, set Promotion type = Product Discount, and enter Campaign name = “Happy hour pizza”.

  3. Under Validity, set From date = the first Wednesday, at 11:00. Leave Until date empty if you want the promotion to remain active until you stop it.

  4. Check Advanced and complete the settings: recurrence type = daily, frequency = 1, days = Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, interval = 5.

  5. Under Target, select Margherita pizza. Under Benefit, enter 20.

  6. Under Loyalty, leave Apply automatically selected.

Validity — Recurrence settings completed for the example: daily, frequency 1, Wednesday–Friday, 5 hours. Under From date, enter the date and time 11:00 — select it from the calendar, and the time entered there is the time when the window starts. (In the screenshot, the field is empty because the image was taken on an unsaved promotion.)

If you check Advanced, you must select the days. Leaving Days of the week empty does not mean “all days” — it means no days, and the promotion will never apply. If you want all days, explicitly select All days of the week. This is the most common reason why a happy hour “doesn't work”.

Without Advanced, the promotion is active continuously between the two dates. The Advanced checkbox is the only place where you can restrict the promotion by hours and days.

If the promotion does not apply, check the following in this order:

  1. Did you select the days of the week?

  2. Is the time in From date the desired start time, rather than the time when you created the promotion?

  3. Is the promotion active at the location where you are working?

  4. Is Apply automatically selected under Loyalty? If it is set to manual, customer, or voucher, it will not apply automatically. Order Discount does not have automatic application at all.

  5. Is the selected product actually the same product included under Target?

Target — The products or categories to which the promotion applies. The All products checkbox replaces the selection. For Order Discount, this step is not completed.
