What are Modifiers?

How do I add modifiers to a product

Written by Andrei

Modifiers are used to create a personalized menu or to add choices to an existing product source.

To add modifiers, all you need to do is to follow the next steps:

Select the menu point Configuration - Modifiers and click on the "+" sign.

In the Name field you add the name of the pack / menu.

After adding the name you will need to add a source from where the menu will begin. The source is going to be the starting product, to which you can then add other option/ingredients.

The source from where the modifier will begin can be a whole category or it can be certain products.

Save the source.

Next, you will need to add the options/targets and save the first target.

You will repeat the process depending on how many targets you will have.

After selecting the targets you will have some details from where to choose:

1. Setting a global price:

  • This means that the price on the fiscal receipt will be the one given to the source.

2. Mandatory Selection:

  • Selecting the mandatory selection means that you won't be able to skip this step until selecting on of the products marked as option.

3. Selection repeatable:

  • Selecting the repeatable selection means that you will be able to select multiple products from that certain option step. (eg. if you have as option 2 pasta: you can choose to select multiple times the products given)

  • Hide: If you have multiple products that change daily, you can choose to hide a certain product within the modifier, and this will only be available as a separate product.

  • Modifier availability: You can choose to be available a product only within a modifier, so that this WILL NOT be able to be marked separately.

  • Delete: From this option you can choose to delete a product if this will no longer be available or if it was put as a modifier by mistake.

How to hide cloned products from appearing separately in the POS

When you create modifiers, the cloned products (variants of a source product) appear by default as standalone products in the POS as well. To hide them, you have two options:

Method 1: Check Visibility in the modifier

  1. Go to Nomenclator → Modifiers.

  2. Select the modifier you want to edit.

  3. Check the Visibility option for the cloned products.

  4. Once checked, the product becomes visible only inside the modifier and can no longer be selected separately in the POS.

  5. Save your changes and sync with the POS.

Method 2: Use a custom product display

In Nomenclator → Product display, create a new display that includes only the categories and products you want to see in the POS — leave the clones out. Set the configuration as active and sync. For details on custom displays, see the Product display article.

Special cases

A product or a category can be set as Source in only one modifier.

The same source cannot be reused in another modifier. If you try to add it a second time, the system will block the action. To use the same product as an Option (not as a source) in multiple modifiers, add it under Options, not Source product.

Combo packages with merchandise and raw materials.

Limitation: A single product cannot combine raw materials and merchandise. If you want to sell a package containing both a merchandise product (e.g., a beer) and a recipe-based product (e.g., an appetizer portion prepared from a recipe), use this workaround with a Service product + a Modifier:

  1. Create a new product under Nomenclator → Products, of type Service, with the desired package price.

  2. Create a new Modifier under Nomenclator → Modifiers:

    • As Source product, add the Service product created in step 1.

    • As Options, add the 2 products that make up the package (one with merchandise, one with raw materials).

  3. Check the „Has global price" option in the modifier — this makes the modifier's price equal to the source product's price (Service), so the individual option prices don't add up anymore.

At sale, you mark the Service product — the modifier automatically adds the 2 component products, each with the correct stock deduction (merchandise or raw materials, as applicable).
